Dear Parents, We are pleased to announce that Shawsheen has a "Summer Reading Incentive Program," through Mad Maggie’s Homemade Ice Cream in North Reading (one block north of Shaws Supermarket/ Boston Flower Market – just after the Ground Round on 28S). Once your child has read a book or you have read aloud a book to your child, write the information on the yellow Mad Maggie’s book card. When your child has read eight selections bring the card in and receive a free ice cream cone. Please note that reading aloud, share reading and independent reading are all acceptable forms of reading literacy which may be put onto the book card. Beginning in June, the Shawsheen summer reading list for 2005 will be online at www.aps1.net. Check out the reading is Fundamental web site at http://www.rif.org/ or www.rif.org/parents/seasonal/default.mspx for activities and tips to keep kids reading during the summer. Please know that as of Thursday, June 2nd we will not have any more book borrowing from our library. Please, check bookshelves, under beds, in closets as we need all books returned. Classes that have returned all books will receive a Popsicle party. If you have any questions let me know – have fun reading! Liz Lamoreaux Media Specialist
June 1, 2005 Shawsheen Library Relocation Our Shawsheen Library has some exciting news – we are moving to a bigger, brighter, more central space in the building! We look forward to creating a comfortable environment where students can be immersed in literature and have space to interact. This area will also house our technology center. We want to set up our media center for library lessons, reader’s theatre, parent and staff meetings, and small group interactions. Our challenge is to furnish our new space accordingly. Considering our new media center’s dimensions and educational initiatives, I have chosen furniture from a catalogue named: The Library Store, Inc. www.thelibrarystore.com. If you have any resources or fundraising ideas that could assist us with this effort please contact Liz Lamoreaux at (978) 623-8599 or elamoreaux@aps1.net. Thanks!
